In the
past, timber posts have been used because
they display great rigidity with
resistance to bending & warping, are
cheap, & readily available. However,
treatment has been required to protect
the timber from the harsh Australian
climate & the daily activities of
viticulture & aquaculture & equestrian.
|
|
Plastic
Pole Vault now offer posts with the
strength & rigidity of timber, combined
with the protective properties &
toughness of polyethylene plastic. |
|
To produce
the Plastic Pole Vault post an untreated
bare timber post is machined to a
nominated diameter; currently 75mm &
113mm. From there, a protective layer of
plastic is applied at
3–6mm thick over the entire post to
leave a finished post diameter of around
83mm & 125mm. The process imparts a
strong adhesion between the timber & the
outer plastic shell & leaves no exposed
timber. |
|
Recognising the importance of being able
to use existing mechanical installation
equipment, the ends of the posts are
protected with extra thick end caps,
which enable the posts to be
hydraulically “whacked” into the ground,
& handled exactly as any other timber
post. |
|
Plastic
Pole Vault posts are a totally
chemical-free option & being
environmentally conscious the plastic
(polyethylene) used is primarily from
recycled dripper tube. The tube is
washed & processed to produce a poly
that is ideal for coating the posts as
it has perfect viscosity & offers
exceptionally long term UV resistance. |
|
The
highest performance is assured as the
integrity of the timber is maintained
through the encapsulation of the timber
post within the polyethylene coating –
that is, the strength & endurance of the
post is protected by the UV resistant
outer plastic shell, which is stabilised
with carbon black. Where normal timber
posts deteriorate over time,
particularly at ground level or
submerged in water, the Plastic Pole
Vault post really delivers with a life
expectancy of 20 years or more. |
